CLIENT NEWS : Award for the Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown
A hearty congratulations to client Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown. The Pantry will be honored with a prestigious award tomorrow morning at a ceremony hosted by Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill. The Food Bank for Westchester will be presenting the Michal Winter Memorial Award for Agency Excellence to the Pantry’s leadership.
The pantry was founded in 2010 by a group of community-based organizations and residents from Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown when the next nearest pantry changed their policy to restrict access to residents of their immediate community. The pantry continues to be run by local volunteers.
Zak Shusterman, a Sleepy Hollow resident, became involved with the Pantry after reading about its formation. He has since volunteered his service in handling the Pantry’s incorporation as a New York not-for-profit corporation, advising on board of directors issues, and overseeing the preparation and submission of an application for tax exempt recognition under section 510(c)(3). Zak is pleased to have been able to support an organization that does such important work in the community, especially when the community is his own.
