CLIENT NEWS : Congratulations to Dance/NYC

A hearty congratulations to the staff and supporters of client Dance/NYC.  Dance/NYC recently completed the complex process of establishing itself as an independent entity, serving as the support structure for all things dance-related in the greater New York City metropolitan area.  Dance/NYC was initially a project  Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance.

In less than a year, Dance/NYC filed as an independent New York not-for-profit corporation and successfully applied to the IRS for recognition of its tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3).  With the support from the offices of both New York’s Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand, Dance/NYC qualified for expedited processing of it tax-exempt application and then prompt confirmation of its 501(c)(3) status.  The speed with which the process was completed was particularly impressive in light of the delays in processing following the response to hurricane Sandy in 2012 and the more recent fall-out over the allegations surrounding certain applications awaiting tax-exempt confirmation.

Additionally, Dance/NYC has launched a beautiful video campaign entitled “New Yorkers for Dance”. The campaign strives to stimulate awareness of the impact dance has on the lives of New Yorkers and features testimonials from some of the premier figures of the New York dance world.  The New York Times’ Stuart Elliot wrote about his exclusive preview of the campaign. You can watch the videos on Dance/NYC’s website or on their youtube channel.
