Client Corbin Hill Road Farm‘s head Dennis Derryck was one of the speakers invited to “Not Just Talk: Food in the South Bronx“, a conference focusing on food justice issues affecting communities like those in South Bronx. As has been widely discussed, Not Just Talk was organized when Tanya Fields, a black urban farmer responsible for the BLK Projek was uninvited as a guest speaker at the more broadly advertised event  “TEDx Manhattan : Changing the way we eat“.

After a difficult reconciliation, representatives from each camp spoke at the other’s event. Both events took place on February 16, 2013. They were recorded and can be streamed online here and here.  Derryck discussed the outstanding success of the Corbin Hill model of farmshares and the role of minority and community members in its mission to bring fresh healthy food to New York City’s food deserts.

On that same day,  a TEDx viewing event in Tarrytown, NY, provided community members an opportunity to view the TEDx presentation via live streaming video and a forum for discussion between sessions.

Zak Shusterman is proud to support organizations addressing the issues of food justice and food quality.
